We wish to appoint an Associate Lecturer with expertise in Education, Special Needs and Disability (SEND) Studies to teach a module on our BA (Hons) Education, Special Needs and Disability degree programme. This is a Fixed-Term hourly paid contract for the 20 / 21 academic year for up to 36 hours per semester required for September start.

As an Associate Lecturer you will work as part of a team providing a high-quality learning experience for undergraduate students. You will build on your experience and expertise in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to develop the module and ensure high quality teaching and assessment. You will deliver high quality, effective and interactive teaching using a range of methods including face to face, blended and remote delivery.

The module you will teach will focus on ‘Engaging All Learners’ and will introduce students to a range of developmental, cognitive, social and emotional influences that affect pupil learning and progress. You will teach students how to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions that contribute to removing barriers to learning, for example, the use of Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC) AAC and ICT. Students will gain an understanding of inclusion for pupils with SEND in mainstream and special schools and begin to debate the importance of inclusive practice in the classroom.

Candidates should have appropriate teaching qualifications and extensive relevant experience. It is essential you have a broad knowledge, experience and skills in SEND education together with the energy, enthusiasm, organisational skills and flexibility which will contribute to enhancing the student experience. Successful candidates will have experience of delivering high quality, interactive teaching or training activities. Experience of teaching and assessing at undergraduate level will be an advantage.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dr Chris Shelton, Head of Education at c.shelton@chi.ac.uk.

This position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check, which will be undertaken by the University on appointment.

The University of Chichester welcomes applicants from BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds as they are currently under represented at this level.
