INTRO & PURPOSE Our design challenge at Dignity platform is 'How can we enable all people to give the way they want to, to the causes they choose?' Fundraising for inspiring organisations and projects has always involved a lot of pressurising junk mail, guilt tripping street chugging, annoying cold calling and distressing advertising. We're experimenting with how much we can transform the opportunities to support our favourite causes, by creating a new match-making platform that connects neighbours with each other.  in meaningful and helpful ways and harnesses the collective intelligence of supporters to collaboratively tackle social challenges together. VISION Think of a couple of your favourite causes; Small local projects you're inspired by or big non profits you love. Now think of a couple of tasks your neighbours might be able to help with; Perhaps a haircut, gardening, accounting or fixing your bicycle. What if the only excuse your neighbour needed to help you with your task was you donating some money to your favourite cause?  Welcome to fundraising with Dignity. Our marketplace is officially launching in Brighton 22nd September and we've got a lot of work to do. We have some startup funding and a budget for the people committed to helping Brighton be the example to the world; and spreading the message: supporting positive social change is something everyone can do, and it can be fun, neighbourly and effective. With Supporter Voice', we embrace another way people can contribute to inspiring causes; - ideas. Propose anything your favourite non-profit could do to be more amazing; it might be around being more transparent, accountable, participative, collaborative; help them tackle a strategic challenge or do anything that would make them ultimately more tempting for you to support. It's time to recognise people passionate about social change as more than just a wallet. We are changing the currency of giving; helping more people forge meaningful relationships in community, develop skills and and find their place in supporting organisations doing invaluable work.   YOU While we certainly want more accounting, legal and software developing skills in house, we're much more interested in deeply, profoundly connecting with each other in this purpose driven collaboration. You will be just as interested in 'how' we do as you are in 'what' we do. We're leading by example in pioneering radically transparent and participative ways of working in a self-organising structure without hierarchy. No line managers or internal bureaucracy. Some of the things that inspire us are:

  • Burning Man's 10 principles
  • Teal organisations
  • Open platform Co-ops
  • Unpretentious but ambitious drive for 'people & planet before profit' innovation

You will be ready to look long and hard in the mirror, because we strive to bring our entire selves to Dignity every day. This requires a commitment to self-development, emotional intelligence and a deep interest in working on our communication and deep exploration into what drives us and most makes us come alive, as well as what gifts and challenges we bring to the collaboration - especially in a self-directed environment.

ROLE Asides from accounts/ bookkeeping/ legal and software development work, some examples of more general things we'd like extra hands on (at least initially and before you become more self-directed) include:

  • Match making neighbours (emailing/ phoning Hirers & Doers, overseeing & supporting them meeting and helping/ hiring each other)
  • Graphic design (mostly basic; eg. a bit of Photoshop)
  • General support organising and co-hosting our events
  • Research (on all kinds of things like event spaces, interesting events, community projects relevant to us, stats and sector information relevant to our work, suitable funding, etc)
  • Techy skills are a bonus for sure (we also use Telegram, Wrike and Facebook to collaborate, so let us know how comfortable you are using those tools) as well as Survery Monkey and other software we dabble with as required
  • If you have useful connections to bring to the table (3rd sector/ volunteers/ other enablers/ advisors/ opportunities/ networks) this is also well worth mentioning.

Talk to us about how capable and willing you are to help with these example jobs.   Ultimately, we're looking for a new friend to join our adventure as much as we're looking for a new colleague to join our company. Your availability would need to be at least 3x half-days per week. We're applying for another £250,000 in startup grants, with a view to becoming financially self sustaining in 2019. Currently, our Core team members work ~15-30hrs a week, flexible hours, self-managing with some consent decision making.  See most of our #workopen experiments here: thoughts on these are welcome. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.   APPLICATION PROCESS (advancement with consent from you and us)

  • Shortlisting
  • Meeting in person
  • Orientation
  • Paid trial
  • Onboarding into Extended team (opportunity to later become Core team/ Co director)

Luke Flegg - Cofounder & Core team member

Closing date Monday, October 30th 2017

Community Base do not take part in the recruitment process. If you wish to apply for any of the opportunities advertised, please contact the organisation direct.
