About the Role

A vacancy has arisen to join our friendly team at Alfriston Primary School as a Caretaker Level 3.

Alfriston Primary is a small village school in a lovely setting with 100 children currently on role aged 4 to 11. 

This position is for 17.5 hours per week over a 5 day working week. (As the position is part time the above salary will be pro-rata)

The role includes responsibility for:     - Site Security     - General maintenance, repairs, cleaning     - Regular fire, water and alarm tests

As Caretaker you will take great pride in creating a safe environment for the whole school community to work within. You will ensure that the building is clean at all times and school facilities are fully maintained to a high standard. We are seeking applicants that can act on their own initiative, dealing with any unexpected problems that may arise. This is an opportunity to join a  team where the children within the school are at the heart of everything we do.

Duties will include:

- Ensuring that the school building and grounds are maintained to agreed standards and specifications. - Carry out the cleaning and maintenance of the school building, grounds and utilities - and ensure that repairs are properly and promptly carried out. - Keeping grounds and buildings secure. - Compliance with all health and safety regulations, in respect of matters affecting cleanliness, security and maintenance of all school buildings and grounds. - Liaise with contractors, as required. - Any other reasonable management request.

Person Specification:

- Previous experience of working in a school, or similar environment, as a premises assistant, maintenance person or caretaker is preferred but not essential. - Knowledge and previous experience of building / basic maintenance tasks. - Good customer relationship skills, demonstrable by experience. - Flexibility in approach - Strong interpersonal skills - Knowledge of health and safety legislation, - Willingness to learn and further develop themselves

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
