About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an efficient and personable individual to join our team of governors.

Sedlescombe Church of England Primary School is a happy school in which all strive to do their best for the children, their families and each other so that everyone reaches their full potential. The school has recently been judged by Ofsted as securely good and we now want to build on this to become an outstanding school. Responsibilities will include working effectively with the Chair of Governors, Headteacher and other governors to secure the continuity of governing business and advising on procedural and legislative matters to ensure the Governing Body works to the legal framework. An understanding of confidentiality is essential for this role.

Tasks will include maintaining a business calendar including policy reviews, arranging meetings, the preparation and circulation of papers, attendance at meetings, taking minutes and all secretarial duties on behalf of the governing body relating to Governing Body business.

The Governing Body is looking to appoint a clerk who is: • Efficient, reliable and confidential • Confident and personable with good communication skills • Interested in school governance • Experienced in minute taking and has excellent administrative skills • Able to work logically and maintain effective filing systems • Confident in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail • Sympathetic to the aims and ethos of a Church of England Primary School

The role will be recruited under the Clerking Service Protocol; applicants must either hold a relevant award (BTEC level 3 in Clerk to the Governing Body or equivalent) or be prepared to work towards the East Sussex Clerk to Governors Accreditation Scheme, for which funding and training will be provided.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2009.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2009 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2009 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2009 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.

Informal visits to the school are welcomed.

For an application pack e-mail Mrs. Hardes (secretary)

To arrange a visit to the school please call Mrs. Harvey (Headteacher)

Additional Information

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits. This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau).
