Laughton Community Primary School Church Lane, Laughton, Lewes, East Sussex, BN8 6AH

About the Role

We are looking for a focused individual to join our team of Governors.

The ideal candidate will be efficient, reliable and confidential with a keen interest in school governance. They will need excellent administrative skills and experience of minute taking and will be confident in the use of Microsoft Word & Excel.

We meet six times a year and meetings last about two hours. Our current clerk would agree that we are organised and well run. Sadly, the demands of her own business are such that she is no longer able to continue with us.

Over the past few years, we have put all our systems in place and now primarily want someone to help prepare the agenda, to take and circulate minutes, to update the policy schedule, and to update Governor Online with appointments and ends of terms.

The Clerk is also required to advise on procedural and legislative matters to ensure the Governing Body works to the legal framework.

The role will be recruited under the Clerking Service Protocol; applicants must either hold a relevant award (BTEC level 3 in Clerk to the Governing Body or equivalent) or be prepared to work towards the East Sussex Clerk to Governors Accreditation Scheme, for which funding and training will be provided.

Visits to the school are most welcome.

Application forms and more information available from the School Office or by emailing the school

This post may be covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2009.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2009 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2009 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2009 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.

Additional Information

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.  This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau).

Equal Opportunities

East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
