About the Role
Our libraries provide a welcoming environment for everyone. The modern library is more than an opportunity to borrow a free book. Last year over 1.7 million people visited our libraries for a wide range of information such as getting online, job-seeking, health and well-being or national and local information. We also work in partnership with a number of different organisations on a regular basis, some are based in our buildings and others visit and hold sessions.
An excellent Library Assistant has good customer services and communication skills; helping our visitors to join the library, use computers and find the information they need, with a great knowledge of what we hold and the local services available. Key to the Library Assistant role is being able to signpost people to what they are seeking.
We have a few vacancies for proactive, self-motivated and flexible people to work in a customer focused environment. You must enjoy working with and serving people as your duties will include staffing the customer counter, answering a wide range of enquiries and maintaining our service provision. Good ICT skills are important but knowledge and experience of working in a library is not essential as full training will be provided. If you have a passion for customer service and a keenness to learn about the service we would like to hear from you.
On occasions you will be required to work in other libraries within East Sussex.
Additional Information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
