This is a fantastic opportunity for a forward thinking and astute planning professional and effective leader to play a pivotal role in modernising our planning service and take the lead in the completion of our City Plan. This is an immensely exciting time for Brighton and Hove. The City is one of the key growth centres of the South East and is delivering and securing significant investment in regeneration and infrastructure, including the prestigious one billion pound sea front investment programme already underway. There couldn’t be a better time for you to join us and make your mark in helping shape our future. Steps have already been made to help position our planning service to meet future needs and to fulfil customer expectations. The service has already partly restructured for the future and a new ICT system introduced. As the successful candidate, you will now drive forward required service improvement to ensure that the service helps to deliver the city’s future ambitions. This will include streamlining business processes and utilising new digital capabilities in order to improve both performance and the customer experience. You will also seek and secure new income streams to ultimately achieve full cost recovery for the service. In this influential role you will take ownership of the development of Stage 2 City Plan to ensure its adoption and timely implementation whilst also championing the future of quality urban design for the city. As the successful candidate you will be a qualified town planner and have relevant planning, leadership and management experience in both planning policy and development management environments. You will be well-versed in driving forward service improvement, with demonstrable outcomes. You will also be familiar with working in a political environment and be able to develop effective working relationships with elected members and a range of stakeholders. As a leader and manager, you will be able to communicate your vision for the future service and be able to motivate, empower and support your team in order to deliver a modern, effective and commercially viable service.
