About the Role

Medway Youth Trust delivers The National Citizen Service (NCS), which is a Government initiative for 16 and 17 year olds to create a more cohesive, responsible and engaged society through young people from different backgrounds working together to complete a social action project which benefits their local community. NCS is underpinned by the principles set out in the NCS ethos which include social mix, challenge, increased responsibility and independence, guided reflection, social action and inspiration and includes residential activities (minimum of 14 nights per year).

The NCS Coordinator will be expected to take a lead in the recruitment of young people across Lewes District (from a range of backgrounds) to take part in the programme. This will include targeting young people to gain expressions of interest (EOIs), converting these EOIs to full sign –ups and keeping sign-ups engaged through keep warm activities prior to the programme commencing. The Coordinator will also work to develop social action opportunities within Lewes to offer to young people during the NCS programme as well as once the programme has been completed. The coordinator will support NCS graduates to complete 30 hours of post graduate social action and keep accurate records of what has been achieved. During quieter delivery periods (generally Autumn/Spring) the NCS Coordinator may lead their own NCS team of 15 young people. During busier periods (generally summer), the NCS Coordinator will take on the responsibility of line managing and supporting NCS Leaders with their delivery.
