About the Role

The Governing Body of Bodiam C E Primary school are seeking to appoint a self-motivated and friendly staff member to join our staff team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a good understanding of health and safety requirements and will be able to undertake cleaning, routine maintenance, basic repairs and DIY tasks.

Sound literacy, numeracy and ICT skills are essential to meet the record keeping requirements of the post.  

The post holder will be responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance and security of the school.  The role involves:

- Cleaning our well maintained premises in term time and carry out the non-term holiday deep cleans; - Opening up and closing our site.  Disposing of waste, keeping our outdoor areas swept and maintained, recording energy data, replacing lighting tubes, operating the heating system and carrying out/recording various weekly and monthly health and safety checks; - Carrying out maintenance tasks such as decorating, repairs, basic plumbing, gulley and gutter maintenance etc.

As a primary key holder, the Caretaker will be required to attend out of hours emergencies.

Unlocking and locking up of the premises is required, therefore a split shift pattern is necessary for the post during School Term Time (39 weeks of the year), which is for 24 hours per week overall.  The approximate split of hours for each aspect of the role are - 10 cleaning hours, 8 caretaking hours and 6 maintenance/handywork hours. 

Working hours are as follows: Morning Shift: Monday to Friday 6.30am to 8.30 am Afternoon Shift: Monday & Tuesday 3.30pm to 6.30pm Wednesday & Thursday 4.00pm to 6.30pm Friday 3.30pm to 6.30pm

This post is paid for 52 weeks per year which includes 21 days paid holiday (rising to 25 days after 5 years service).
