Our Adult Social Care Access Point ensures that vulnerable adults receive the right care in the right place at the right time. We strive to deliver the maximum independence and safety with the minimum intervention, building on strengths and supporting our service users to achieve the outcomes they want.

This post is critical in helping us to continue to deliver this service to adults with mental health needs in partnership with our local mental health trust, Sussex Partnership Foundation NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT).


Vacancy detail
The postholder will be responsible for; Providing oversight, advice and professional leadership in situations which require specialist mental health input and negotiate timely referral to teams within SPFT.

Providing advice to access point staff about proportionate and personalised approaches to service users with severe and enduring mental health needs. This will include service users at risk of abuse, self-neglect and those referred by the police and ambulance service.

Provide a specialist view and/or intervention in the assessment and management of risk

Working with the Access Point Operations Managers to develop systems to support the team as a central point of referral for mental health safeguarding alerts.

The successful candidate will;

Be an Approved Mental Health Practitioner.

A Best Interest Assessor or committed to undertaking the training to become a BIA.

Confident in their knowledge and experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults, risk assessment, and assessing service users with complex mental health.

Have significant experience of working in an integrated mental health trust.

Have the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to operate at the "experienced" level of the Professional Capabilities Framework. 

Be expected to demonstrate an advanced understanding of social models of mental illness and be confident in their knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
