This role is part of a team of two providing a Highways out of hours service for Brighton & Hove City Council. The postholder is required to work evenings, weekends and nights responding to calls from the public and the emergency services.

The service includes highway and street lighting safety issues, severe weather events, dealing with premises and car alarms, urgent cleansing issues such as discarded needles or dead animals, and making the highway safe after road traffic collisions. The team supports the winter service, loading and co-ordinating the gritters. The post is part-time, 28.5 hours per week. Shifts are based at Hollingdean Depot on Thursday and Friday evening from 3.45pm to midnight, and on Saturday from 8 am to 8pm. The postholder is then required to be on call at home throughout the rest of the night. The nature of the job means that the postholder will be required to work any public holidays (e.g. Christmas/New Year) that fall on the relevant shift days. The postholder must hold a full driving licence, be prepared to work in all weather conditions including gales and snow storms, and be able to carry out manual work as well as operate specialist vehicles (training provided).   Contract: Permanent; Part Time - 28.5 Hours Per Week
